Getting your home ready for a new sitter

A short checklist that makes the first visit smoother for everyone, from emergency contacts to where the snacks live.

The first time a new sitter walks through your door, a little preparation goes a long way. Here’s what we suggest having ready.

The essentials, written down

Leave your phone number, a backup contact, your address, and your pediatrician’s number somewhere easy to find. Note any allergies or medications clearly.

A quick tour

Show your sitter where to find first-aid supplies, a flashlight, diapers or pajamas, and how to lock the doors. Five minutes now saves a lot of searching later.

Your routines

Bedtime, screen time, snacks, and the stuffed animal that absolutely must come along. Kids feel most secure when the rhythm of the evening stays familiar.

Arrive a few minutes early

If you can, overlap for ten minutes so your children see you and the sitter together. It makes the goodbye easier.
