The handoff
Goodbyes go more smoothly with a little structure.
- Ask your sitter to arrive ten minutes early so you can overlap
- Do a quick walk-through together while the kids watch
- Keep goodbyes short, warm, and confident, even if there are tears
- Tell your kids when you’ll be back in terms they understand: “after bath and two books”
- Let your sitter know how you’d like updates, if at all
Routines that travel well
Kids feel most secure when the rhythm of the evening stays familiar.
- Write down the bedtime order: bath, teeth, books, lights out
- Name the comfort items that must come along, like a blanket or stuffed animal
- Be clear about screen time, if any
- Share the phrases that work at your house, like “first this, then that”
- For infants, note feeding times, amounts, and safe-sleep preferences
After the booking
A quick check-in builds the kind of trust that makes great repeat bookings.
- Ask how the evening went and what the kids enjoyed
- Share any feedback kindly and directly
- If it was a great fit, save your sitter as a favorite
- Ask your kids what they’d like to do next time
